The most relevant clinical work examined a specific bioavailable form. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, Wickett et al. (2007) gave 48 women with fine hair either 10 mg of silicon per day as choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid (ch-OSA) or placebo, over nine months. The ch-OSA group showed a smaller decrease in elastic gradient and break load compared with placebo, and an increase in cross-sectional area.
Two caveats matter: this study evaluated ch-OSA, a specific choline-stabilized formulation, not silica in general and not LIVING SILICA®. The findings apply to that population, dose, and duration.
